It's always a shame when you can see the potential in something but it never quite gets there. The biggest single problem with "The Yeti" is it takes itself far too seriously, for what is, at the end of the day, a monster flick. If they had made the scares and deaths more in keeping with a black humour vibe rather than tragic, this would have been far more enjoyable. What's also missing is the sense of creeping dread…

Monster movies don't have to be about the monster. In order to build attention for a horror movie, you have to establish characters that you can relate to and invest in. If you don't, then it's just a piece of plastic mask that you're showing in front of the camera and asking people to be scared of it. If the characters are afraid, then it translates to the audience.
